Announcing the MagicianAThon September 1 - 30

I originally intended the WitchyReadathon to be only seasonal but there were so many magic-themed books on my TBR that I realized I needed more readathons to get to them all. Along with witches were magicians, shapeshifters, fairies, gods and goddesses, alchemy, divination, and get the idea. So I have decided to host a readathon every month with a different theme.

The Theme for This Round
The theme for September will be MagicianAThon. We read about witches so now let's read about magicians! This readathon will focus on books with main or supporting characters that are magicians, those that are practitioners of magic. Sometimes different names are used such as mage, wizard, brujo, shaman, or sorcerer. They may also sometimes practice alchemy but you might want to hold off on alchemy themed books because that will be the readathon theme in November. (The entire 2020 schedule can be found here.) Note, this does not mean the characters have to be male. Woman can be magicians too!

Why a New Theme?
WitchyReadathon included all types of characters that did magic so why focus on just magicians in this round and just do another WitchyReadathon? The reason is I noticed that the participants (myself included) focused on just witch-themed fiction and nonfiction. While this is fine, sometimes the fun of a themed readathon is that you search out books you wouldn't normally read. If you're anxious to focus on reading about witches again this will be a subject allowed for October's SamhainAThon. While witches aren't the focus of this readathon, if witches are also in the book this is fine.

 The Readathon Rules:
  • This readathon begins September 1, 2020 and ends September 30, 2020.
  • You may sign up anytime during the challenge.
  • I won't be creating different challenge levels or prompts. I've always preferred a more open flexible challenge style.
  • Read as little or as many books as you want. Even if you just read one book I want you to participate!
  • You may include books of any format including traditional books, ebooks, or audiobooks.
  • Books may be nonfiction or fiction.
  • Fiction books can be any genre but they need to have someone as the main or supporting character that is some kind of magician. This can be any kind of magical person or being such as a mage, wizard, brujo, shaman, druid, shapeshifter, or sorcerer. Here is a suggested fiction TBR as a starting point.
  • Nonfiction books will be any books that are about the Western Esoteric Tradition, biographies, autobiographies, and memoirs about such figures, folklore about magicians, wizards, and so on, as well as books about being a shaman or brujo. Here is a suggested nonfiction TBR as a starting point.
  • You may reread books. Books may count towards other reading challenges.
  • Use the hashtag #MagicianAThon on social media.
